hello guys,
hit entertainment, the compeny who creates barney and friends, announced that they are in the process of having their asets baught by Mattel. I am wondering if this will put the show off the air, or if it will lead to more barney toys given their fisher price brand own a barney licence.

Wait, Barney is still "ON" the air? I thought that creepy abomination was removed from dreams and nightmares alike years ago.

a few disney channel employies had their start with the show, as well as tom kenny, the voice of sponge bob.

I didn't know Barney was still on the air, either. i'll admit I used to absolutely love it as a child, but it just seems creepy to me now. Just my opinion, though.

Post 6 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 14-Feb-2012 13:31:08

although Barney is still on air, his voice sounds totally different. the show is nowhere near as great as it was when I was a kid.

blame it on cast changes. every 3 seasons the cast gets completely overhalled. your opinion could be the result of remembering the so called "first generation" (seasons 1-3) I grew up with. when the second generation started, I was thrown off guard by jo philops as the composer replacing laurence hairington. Also, during the first generation, one of the cast members was a tad deff, and another was on a wheelechair. there's even a blind teenager in season 1!

The daughter started watching in 1996 have no idea what generation of Barney that was. But he sounded like a cazoo and I wanted to just go the whole way and strangle him with that tail of his half the time.
Kiddie shows are parental torture.

Some of them definately are, that's for sure. That and Dora the Explorer. I don't see anything wrong with that one, but every episode is nearly identical! At that age I know repetition is important, but geez!

Dora the Explorer is really hard to listen to when waking up with a hangover just sayin' but ya do what you do for the kiddos ...

1996: first generation, spacificly season 3. Jo philops daybued late during this season, but his official daybue was second generation.

Just so you know though, Debut is D E B U T, not D A Y B U E. I believe it's French but I could be wrong. And I didn't know Barney was still on the air. Te only thing I liked that involved Barney was making fun of that stupid song and fantasizing about Barney being in Mortal Kombat so I could Fatality him.

I think i remember season 1. possibly. maybe. it was like 89 90 91 for me or something. but barney still exists? eep. k i had a barney puppet when i was a kid, but just the thought creeps me out now. he liked hugging and kissing little kids

barney is a pedifile lol

I think Barney's the reason the other dinosaurs are extinct LOL.

Post 16 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 23-Feb-2012 14:08:48

He is also the reason kids are so screwed up. at least, one of them.

Post 17 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 23-Feb-2012 19:26:30

It's funny the things we think are cute and lovable as kids that we now find overwhelmingly creepy. So many of the Disney movies I adored as a child are difficult for me to watch now because of the things they promote. Many of them promote sexism; Cinderella being the first one to come to mind. O, and of course, Sleeping Beauty. But anyway, I digress. I'm sure the makers of Barney weren't intending to make the dinosaur a little too interested in loving children than he should be, but I can't help thinking that every time I remember the Barney song.

I remember when dunkin branon played him in 2001, I swar he sounded like he had a stuffed nose. then when deen whent showed up, man, bad acting on his part.

Post 21 by SilverLightning (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2012 21:24:06

Ok, I'm sorry, but I have to say this. The fact that you know who voiced barny more than a decade ago, and can just ramble off facts about that show, is creepy as hell. I could understand it if it was like MASH, or Full house, or something like that which aired decades ago, but this is barney we're talking about.

Post 22 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 05-Mar-2012 9:29:38

Another fact: Bj is currently voiced by tray parker, creator of south park. That's why he sounds like a young version of kartman.
Bob west was the origenal voice of barney from 1988 to 2000.

i love barney as did my kids. i don't know why people think he is creepy. it's a show on tv for heaven sakes. the people portraying the characters are actors. i always heard that the person doing the music for that show was blind. anyway, i haven't seen it for years, but back in the early and mid 90s he was a most welcome guest at my home.

oh dora sucks. i hate that show. my grand daughter loves her. my big problem is that in every episode i've seen she's smarter then her parents. they are just there to give her stuff. i don't get it.

Post 24 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 03-Apr-2012 16:14:21

which person in particular? 2 people actually did the music for barney. are you talking about the one who did the first generation (lorence hairington), the current composer (jo philops), the former music director (bob singleton), or the early actris from the early backyard gang episodes (sandy dunkin)?

Post 25 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 03-Apr-2012 16:27:39

Ok I have to agree with Silver Lightning. It's really creepy that you know so much about the show, dude.

Post 26 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Apr-2012 13:07:53

speaking of blind, that reminds me of the blind teenager in season 1. while she only appeared in one episode, she is one of my favorite characters, allong with daric and cathy.

I used to watch Barney when I was a kid. But my story is a little different than most people who were introduced to the show. Due to my eye condition I had several surgeries. A few weeks after having one, I was listening to some TV when I heard the familiar music for Barney come on. I couldn’t change the channel, so I figured I’d just try to ignore him and sleep. But after the episode started, everything changed. The reason was, I heard this little girl with the most amazing singing voice for her age. I learned her name was Julie.

As it turned out that was actually one of my favorite names and still is. I’m an author, so I use names a lot. But back to this. I had never watched Barney for Barney. The first two kids I Really started liking when I First watched it were Min and Kathy. I felt a connection with them. But when I was introduced to Julie, Min and Kathy took second and third place as my favorites. I LOVED the way Julie sung and her overall personality. I also loved that she was adopted. Adoption has always been something very close to my heart.

The first song I heard Julie sing solo was called “Someone to Love You Forever.” It remains to be one of my favorite Julie songs til this day. I still listen to it once in a while. It’s a very beautiful song and Julie sings it really well. Plus, nobody else is there when she sings it, so it’s just her. She’s singing it to a cute puppy, which makes it even more adorable!

As for Min, my favorite song of hers is a Philippine Lullaby she sung in “What’s that Shadow?.” After season 3 ended, I stopped watching for a while. Then one day, I turned the TV on and Barney was on. Deciding to see if there were any kids I would like in season 4, I watched the episode that was on. It was called “It’s Tradition.” I found I LOVED Alyssa and Ashley, twin sisters who were really sweet. They were also from Season 3, which was a nice throw back.

As for Kathy, the episode I would always watch that had her as the center was “My Family’s Just Right for Me.” I Liked the lullaby she sung to her teddy bear. It was cute and she too had a nice voice. But Julie’s singing was the best in my opinion.
I haven’t watched Barney on TV for fifteen years, but I do search for my favorite Julie centered or Min centered episodes every once in a while, but that’s about it. As for Barney himself, he has always annoyed me. If it wasn’t for Julie, Min, Kathy or Alyssa and Ashley, I would never have watched it.

I always thought kathy had a cute voice. same with min. the girl playing min, Jun Pualono, is still acting in the hustan area where the show was filmed.
